Dr. Deepa Gavali, Director (Acting), Gujarat Ecology Society is associated with the organization since 1999. She holds PhD degree in Botany from M S University of Baroda with special stress biology. She is the recipient of Women Scientist (category A) of Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi in 2005. She has worked extensively on biodiversity conservation both terrestrial and coastal and marine ecosystems. She is a member of IUCN, Commission on Ecosystem Management since 2012. Important tasks handled so far include designing taluka level ecosystem management practices for 20 coastal talukas of Gulf of Kachchh and climate change scenario of Kachchh. Apart from these have undertaken studies on impact studies of industries on various ecosystem like terrestrial, wetlands and coastal and marine. Have experience of working with community and recently completed projects on afforestation programmes in coastal region and terrestrial systems with the aim of improving the green cover and adapting towards climate change. Actively involved in research and guided students for their dissertation studies. She has attended International workshop and represented GES in the IUCN (WCC) meet at Hawaii in September 2016.
