Samira Sheikh is associate professor of history at Vanderbilt University, in Nashville, USA. She is the author of Forging a Region: Sultans, Traders, and Pilgrims in Gujarat, 1200-1500 (Oxford, 2010), and co-editor (with Francesca Orsini) of After Timur Left: Culture and Circulation in Fifteenth-Century North India (Oxford, 2014). She is currently working on a book on Bharuch in the eighteenth century.
