Hasmukh Shah is Founder Chairman of Darshak Itihas Nidhi and the visionary figure behind the foundation’s publications and research initiatives.

Hasmukh Shah has a very varied carrier beginning as a lecturer in Comparative Religion (1959); then doing research in and editing of Ganghiji’s works (1957-1963). He has work in worked in Government of India in senior positions in Finance Ministry, the Prime Minister’s office and also as Secretary of the Posts and Telegraph Board of India. He was the Chairman of the largest petrochemical company of India. Over the years he has been Chairman/Director of over 30 public limited companies and Adviser to General Electric Company (6 years) and the BG Group of UK (12 years).

In last two decades, however, his main preoccupation has been institution building.
Ecology & Environment: He was the first Chairman of Gujarat Ecology Commissioning and Founder Chairman of the Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology, Gujarat Ecology Society.
Rural Development: Chairman, GRISERV (an organization for rural and tribal development); Life Trustee, Bharatiya Agro Industries Foundation; Founder Trustee; Development Support Centre; Trustee, Shroff Foundation.
Education: Hasmukh Shah was the Chairman of the Governing Council of National Institute of Design for over the decade; Member of the Boards of the Governors of India Institute of Technology (Mumbai), the Institute of Rural Management, Anand; Lok Bharti (a rural university), Surendranagar Education Society; set up Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Technology and Set on its Board; Chaired the Search Committees for Vice Chancellors and institute Directors.
Healthcare: President, Charutar Arogya Mandal (Medical College of 550 bed hospital); Shram Mandir Trust (leprosy eradication and rehabilitation).
History & Heritage: Founder Chairman, Darshak Itihas Nidhi, a Foundation for Studies in History; President, Heritage trust; Vice Chairman, Indian National for Art and Cultural Heritage.

Hasmukh Shah has served on several government committees and mission.
