Dr. Abdulaziz Y. Lodhi (b. 1945, Zanzibar) is Professor Emeritus in Swahili and African Linguistics (with East African Area Studies) at the Department of Linguistics and Philology, Uppsala University, Sweden. He has published extensively on Swahili Studies, South Asian presence in Eastern Africa, African Presence in India, and Zanzibar Affairs. During the academic year 2014-2015, he was Visiting Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Currently he is Visiting Professor at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). Since September 2013 he is also a Member of the International Scientific Committee (ISC) of the Slave Route Project, UNESCO, Paris. His latest publications include Oriental Loanwords in Swahili (2015), OUP, Nairobi, and South Asians and their Languages in eastern Africa, AWAAZ VOICES, Vol 13/1:7-13, IKSAH, Nairobi.
